Wind is really picking up in Hernando Beach. Hernando Sheriff Al Nienhuis says it appears most people evacuated. #HurricaneHelene Storm surge in Hernando County is expected to reach 8-12 ft, which could double what Hurricane Idalia produced last year.
Shoal Line Boulevard leading to the Hernando County coastal areas remains underwater. Hernando Sheriff Al Nienhuis says the storm surge from #HurricaneHelene caused devastating flooding. He considers it fortunate there were 18 rescues and no serious injuries so far.
This is one of four boats blocking Shoal Line Blvd, which leads to the coastal areas of #HernandoCounty. Video shows the marina where they were initially docked. Hernando Sheriff and other emergency responders are assessing damage before allowing residents to return home.
