Spoke with Whitney Young students this week about the power of their voices and education. I shared my commitment to uplifting Black and Brown communities and why I’m running for the Chicago School Board—to bring real change to CPS, with a focus on the community.

Spent the morning at Burbank Elementary. I spoke with parents about their concerns and how they want the school to improve. People fight for what they help to build, and I have and will continue working with parents, students, and the community to build a better CPS.

Former mayor Rahm Emanuel's program of school closures and privatization decimated Black & working class communities in Chicago. It took 34-day hunger strike to save the last open enrollment high school in our neighborhood under his tenure. He deserves no position of leadership!

We don’t have “failing schools,” but as a public we’ve been failed. I’m excited to sit on a Board that will not do the bidding of corporations, but will do the bidding of the people in our communities. Thanks for having me WTTW - Chicago PBS Chicago Tonight!
