So it's the last few hours of the strange and aspirational life of Google Stadia and as a former PLM thought I'd weigh in on this on a platform with a questionable future on a difficult day for not completely unrelated reasons. First, by the end of my use of it, I came to: /1

really like it. I bought it for Cyberpunk 2077 which turned out to work very well with. I ended up putting on a TV which transformed the use of that room and for casual gaming really opened it up. I kept my pro sub until the end and played 'Into the Breach' a lot with it. /2

While I've tried Xbox cloud gaming and NVIDIA's offering, Stadia just worked very well and mostly seamlessly. The low latency was magical engineering. Hats off to those teams. I felt that the business model could have been optimized and it was too bad that /3

The investment in the Google game studio was shortlived. This platform cried out for games that played to it's strengths with nintendo as a model. But alas, Google needed to invest for a long haul, and this adds to its pattern of lack of commitment to new product lines. /4

Kudos to the engineers and artists who worked on this platform, PMs, PLMs, and it was honourable giving refunds for bought software and (presumably) the hardware (I'm waiting for the refund there). And for bluetooth controller support as a parting gift. /end.
