Getting ready to serve. Lineman Wiley Harris, right, is going to Guatemala in June to work on an #nrecainternational project, bringing electricity and clean water filtration to the rural La Hortiga area. Today was orientation day at MiEnergy Co-op in Rushford.

We talk about trees and tree trimming a lot at MVEC, and here's a good example of its importance. Last week's outage near Chaska was caused by a fallen tree, which ended up snapping a pole. Crews worked quickly and safely to replace the pole and minimize the outage.

We had a great time hosting colleagues from Great River Energy on Thursday. The goal of the morning was to show the differences and similarities between a distribution cooperative (MVEC) with a generation and transmission cooperative (GRE) to 24 of their newest staff members.

A boost for the birds! When Shakopee Mdewakanton requested MVEC's assistance in installing an osprey nest, MVEC teamed up with Great River Energy to provide a used transmission pole for the nest. and installed it this morning near the site of SMSC's annual Wacipi, held each August.

Things are buzzin’ at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum. This month, ORU presented a check to help fund a solar display for the Tashjian Bee and Pollinator Discovery Center. This all leads to the honey harvest at 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, at the Arb, sponsored by MVEC and Great River Energy.

As Highway 212 expands, so must our lines. MVEC crews are out this week moving more than a mile of line to make way for the expansion project near Cologne.
