Little Tiger Blue (Tarucus balkanicus) in northern Greece. I've been fond of this tiny jewel since I first saw it almost 15 years ago, whilst researching a new butterfly tour for Greenwings Wildlife Tours It was like unearthing hidden treasure at the time, a feeling that doesn't fade.

Amazing camouflage on this Grayling this morning at Arnside Knott in Cumbria. It looks like a small piece has broken off the rock nearby. Almost impossible to find it when it landed by my feet. #Savebutterflies

This is an historic photo. Congratulations to William Brame (who took the photo) for realising this was a different white butterfly. Now confirmed by Chris van Swaay as a Southern Small White - the first seen in England. As it is a female let's hope it has been laying eggs.

Wow! An epic sight of 100+ Rajah Brooke’s Birdwing butterflies today by our group on tour in Malaysia. A lot bigger & a lot easier to identify than a Southern Small White in England!

Seen a Southern Small White? Difficult to distinguish from other whites. James Corton, Suffolk Butterfly Recorder, has produced a guide based on data from Chris van Swaay an expert on the species. Go to our home page suffolkbutterflies.org.uk & click on the link to the guide.

Although the marshes of NE Suffolk seem to be a stronghold for the Wall Brown in Suffolk there have also been sightings at Dunwich Heath, Orford Church, Aldeburgh, Sudbourne Church & Landguard. Not too late to keep looking. πŸ“·from Aldeburgh Β© John Heald
