Great discussion on diversity and inclusion in biophysics right now @ #BPS2021 - Our leaders should be challenged to be better mentors and powers in inclusivity. Institutions need to be held accountable and not rely on their students for expanding diversity efforts

< 1 month left to apply for a fully funded #PhD at the Dunn_School (now @DunnSchool.bsky.social) University of Oxford! Pick the Isom lab to study proteins that build bacterial membranes using #cryoEM #biochemistry and/or #microbiology. path.ox.ac.uk/content/depart… #Postdoc also available from Spring 2022. Please RT!

I'm hiring a postdoc! If you/someone you know has Structural Biology/Biochemistry experience, and are interested in coming to Oxford to research bacterial membrane proteins, then check it out! See below for links, and please RT :)

NYU Grossman School of Medicine students and faculty walkout in protest against the hiring of David Sabatini. Our responsibility is empowerment of women in science and guaranteeing a safe and respectful work environment for all.

This Zoom was the most surreal 90 minutes of my time in grad school. Our head of HR really said that it was hypocritical that Sabatini's accuser (a trainee) wasn't also terminated. If any incoming students want to chat my DMs are open, and I'm so sorry. nyunews.com/news/2022/04/2…

Disappointed that New York University would deny bonuses to graduate researchers who are among the most vulnerable to economic hardship in the wake of the pandemic & that admin would rather split hairs on semantics of FTEs than support the ppl carrying on their sacred academic mission

Our work in harvesting the power of AlphaFold in combination with experimental data to understand protein-protein interactions in the bacterial lipid transport system, Mla, is now live on BioRxiv here!! 🎉 Check it out :)

Check out the second half of my PhD thesis work, recently published in JBC, here! We utilized a combination of computational and experimental approaches to decipher the transient protein-protein interactions made while transporting lipids across the bacterial cell envelope! 😊

Delighted to share that my postdoctoral work in the BhabhaEkiertLab is now published nature , detailing the #cryoEM structure of an endogenous MCE lipid transporter from #mycobacteria. nature.com/articles/s4158…

I’m proud to present our latest work on the #cryoEM structure of the RodA-PBP2 complex in E. coli, which is out in Nature Communications today! In this work we used an interdisciplinary approach to shed light on the structural basis of peptidoglycan biosynthesis. nature.com/articles/s4146…

Delighted to introduce Dr. Ilmain (Juliana), the newly minted PhD student from the Torres lab NYU Grossman School of Medicine. She crushed her thesis defense yesterday. 🍾. Thanks to the superstar co-mentor team of BhabhaEkiertLab. Part of her thesis work should be in press very soon.

I've been playing a bit more with ChimeraX (bsky: chimerax.ucsf.edu) lately - it is fantastic and beautiful software, and built by an extremely helpful and patient team of developers! Here are some settings and aliases/shortcuts that I find handy: github.com/olibclarke/chi…

Excited to share that the first paper from the Isom lab is now available on Biorxiv! (biorxiv.org/content/10.110…). We have investigated YhdP at the molecular level to show that it forms an envelope-spanning bridge and that putative phospholipids are found inside this bridge!
