Once the scandal settles & memes run wild, I'm here to discuss whether this "revelation" is *materially* different from what white scholars of African studies, Black Studies, Latinx studies etc have been doing for time. For now I'm holding Black Latinas close today in witness.

Do you remember #CadaanStudies and the continued mistreatment from incredibly senior white male Africanists of young African & Africanist scholars like safia aidid (primarily against women and/or queer folks)? I do.

Often times when we think about the history of Somalis in the UK, we think about civil war era c.1991. However, Somalis have existed in the UK for over 100 years and travelled as Seamen from different parts of “The British Empire” including the British Somaliland. (2/3)

The first groups of Somalis, that we know of, travelled to the UK after the opening of the Suez Canal in the 19th century. In 1914 (WWI) their numbers increased due to the increase in demand for their services. (3/3)
