The U.S. Open is in a rain delay, and NBC is now airing the third round of the 2008 U.S. Open that Tiger Woods won at Torrey Pines. Can't go wrong with Tiger, I assume. NBC didn't broadcast the most recent U.S. Open at Oakmont (2016, Fox), but did air the 2007 (Cabrera won).

J.J. Spaun just sunk a 64-foot putt to win the U.S. Open—his first career major win. He takes home $4.3 million, tied for the largest-ever prize for a major.

Huge news for professional golf this morning. The PGA Tour officially announced Brian Rolapp's hire as its first CEO. But the bigger news is Commissioner Jay Monahan "will transition his day-to-day responsibilities" to Rolapp, and step down from his role at the end of 2026.

"My goal as CEO is to honor golf’s traditions but not be overly bound by them," Rolapp said in an open letter to fans. "The Tour has made meaningful progress in addressing these changes. ... But there’s still significant work to do."

Bumping this from last week — new PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp and LIV Golf CEO Scott O'Neil have a history together. How much will that impact a potential merger? TBD, but it certainly can't hurt discussions.

There will no doubt be speculation in the coming years that new PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp will return to the NFL to succeed Roger Goodell, if and when he ever retires. "A lot of people focus on who the next commissioner is," Rolapp said. "I don’t." frontofficesports.com/rolapp-weighs-…
