I’m saying this as a poor kid valedictorian who had a full scholarship: expecting high-achieving poor kids to be perfect to afford higher ed isn’t healthy, especially when they get there and are surrounded by mediocre rich kids whose privilege insulates them from consequence.



This is such good reporting from the The Harvard Crimeson: There are about 27,000 high schools in the U.S. Over the past 15 years, 1 in 11 students at Harvard have come from just 21 high schools. So 9.1% of Harvard students come from 0.07% of US schools. David Brooks



Climate scientist Peter Kalmus (Peter Kalmus) talks about leaving Los Angeles two years ago due to the risk of climate-fueled wildfires. He says the devastation unfolding in Southern California now is even worse than he feared and warns, "This is still just the beginning."
