My survey of worker leaders found that Black Lives Matter was the social movement that worker leaders most cited as a "major" influence on their decision to unionize in 2022 Anti-racist activism *can* spur unionization 👇

Routledge apparently unpublished this book due to a legal threat from Boaventura de Sousa Santos, accused under a pseudonym in 1 of the chapters. Since its publication, at least 2 more women have come forward, claiming similarity to the case described. Sick stuff from Routledge.

I’m saying this as a poor kid valedictorian who had a full scholarship: expecting high-achieving poor kids to be perfect to afford higher ed isn’t healthy, especially when they get there and are surrounded by mediocre rich kids whose privilege insulates them from consequence.

I am a professor and I really like doing teaching, research, and service work. But sometimes I feel like most of what I do is actually not teaching, research, OR service. It is emails and paperwork. Gah.

The real story is not Michigan’s DEI offices, it’s the fact that ~10% of Michigan’s students come from the top 1% of the income distribution, 66% of students from the top 20%. Michigan is the LEAST socioeconomically diverse highly selective public university in the United States.

This is such good reporting from the The Harvard Crimeson: There are about 27,000 high schools in the U.S. Over the past 15 years, 1 in 11 students at Harvard have come from just 21 high schools. So 9.1% of Harvard students come from 0.07% of US schools. David Brooks

This went out to the entire county. In 15 minutes, my spouse and I got our 7 week old baby, two disabled parents, and 15 year old dog packed and out the door. Incompetent idiots, causing panic in already panicked realities. So fucking tired right now.

Climate scientist Peter Kalmus (Peter Kalmus) talks about leaving Los Angeles two years ago due to the risk of climate-fueled wildfires. He says the devastation unfolding in Southern California now is even worse than he feared and warns, "This is still just the beginning."

This country is a hellscape: Imprisoned teenage boys & young men 18 to 24 are being used to battle the wildfires. 95% are Black, Latino, or Filipino; earn between $2.20 & $4 per hour, plus an additional $1 an hour when they’re actively fighting fires teenvogue.com/story/wildfire…

Right so, “resist” means *don’t* follow fascist orders. Don’t take the art off the walls. Don’t delete the website. Don’t open the dams. Play dumb. Ask for clarity, repeatedly. Lose the email. Misplace the keys. Stall. Ignore. Forget. Crawl. You are the line, you hold it.
