Former Seattle mayor Charley Royer, a dedicated civic leader to learn from, will be missed. Thank you to his family and friends who supported him as he shared his time with us and our city.

Positive impacts to safety in public places: thank you to CM Kettle, Rivera and CP Nelson, along with Downtown Seattle Assoc. Jon Scholes for joining me in efforts to disrupt the hold that illegal drug use & associated criminal activities has on areas too established in our city.

Thank you CM Moore for focusing on sex trafficking & associated gun violence. We won’t act like girls and women are invisible any longer but will say ‘You’re worth it; we care enough to act and disrupt this criminal enterprise of trafficking. seattlechannel.org/videos?videoid…

What an honor to witness and participate in the community outpouring for a life spent in service to others—people and animals—and tragically lost in a moment. Ruth made a difference in Seattle for so many.

In the bottom of this photo, you can see Ladder 118 crossing over the Brooklyn Bridge on their way to the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. This is their last known photo. Every single firefighter on that truck perished just a few minutes later. We vowed to never forget.

Thank you to our veterans who served us all in America in the past or in the present in our military. Our veterans and their families deserve our thanks every day.

It’s always time to notice things to be thankful for. Thank you to those behind the scenes like first responders showing up for our health or public safety needs; or workers in hospitals and supportive housing. I’m thankful for the opportunity to serve. Happy Thanksgiving.

Feelings of anguish, sorrow, outrage—so many honoring Shawn Yim’s service to the public—and so many transit providers from across the region there in solidarity, and in mourning from the inexplicable loss.

Please read this important op-ed I wrote to bring attention to the public safety needs on our roadways: seattletimes.com/opinion/wa-tox…

HB 1228 would change state law to mirror more than half the other states that use nationally accredited labs. The 400 day + avg backlog from WA St Patrol lab—the only state law allowed tester—hinders accountability for those who choose to drive impaired. We all want safer roads.

What a great celebration of the unity of sports at the Seattle Sports Commission event. And fun to see Beth Knox and one of my former work colleagues from my Sonics’ front office days!

For decades, Seattle’s law has directed its employees to not ask about immigration status unless legally required. We decide how our local police officers will enhance public safety: by conducting interviews, collecting evidence, caring for victims and building community trust.
