Throughout the last year I have regularly pointed out that wholesale gas costs are falling. I pointed out that gas corps were profiteering. Ofgem used to contact me to tell me that I was wrong. Today, Shell announced the highest profits in its 115 year history & mostly from gas

School meals should be free for everybody. Charging children to eat somewhere they are legally required to be for the entire day is exploitative.

The results of the world’s largest trial of a 4-day week (with no loss of pay) are out: ▪️ No drop in revenue ▪️ 65% fewer sick days ▪️ 71% less burnout ▪️ 92% of companies decide to keep the policy after the trial The conclusion is clear: we need a shorter working week.

I am pleased to see that momentum for a 4-day week continues to grow. The evidence is clear: a reduction in hours boosts productivity & improves wellbeing. As we said in our 2019 manifesto, "time off to rest, relax and be with family is essential to a happy & fulfilling life."

Doubled medical school places will give you more GPs in 10-11 years at best. Much more sensible to retain the ones we already have, by expanding postgraduate training capacity and boosting pay/conditions. Also would need to make GP itself more palatable.

Today it has been reported that during our first round of action in England mortality rate was 11.1% above the 5 year average. What they haven’t reported was that in Wales, where no strike action took place, mortality rate was 14% above the 5 year average. 1/3

Once again, we've written to Steve Barclay asking him to meet with us to discuss #PayRestoration for junior doctors. We hope he will take this opportunity to come to the table. Dr Robert Laurenson Vivek Trivedi

The government argument that higher public sector pay will bump up inflation was debunked by leading economist Stephanie Flanders on Laura Kuenssberg this morning. She says: ‘That’s not something economists tend to agree with’

We live in a grotesquely unequal society that concentrates wealth, status & power in the hands of a few. Real patriotism is about building a society that cares for each other and cares for all.

And yet… The reason you are elected and enjoy the privilege of expressing this view is because many men and women of this country spoke out, and acted, on things they thought wrong. It’s society, it’s a work in progress, and the process must be allowed to continue.

The regret rate of gender-affirming surgery is 0.3%. The regret rate for knee replacement surgery is 6-30%. "Transition regret" is a false narrative being pushed by the media to prevent people from getting access to life-saving, gender-affirming healthcare. However...

Cost of compulsory national service: £2.5bn a year. Cost of pay rise for junior doctors that ministers insist is “simply unaffordable”: £2bn a year.

Unfortunately, a tabloid newspaper has got hold of a music video I recorded in Islington North with an iconic grime artist I've admired for years. They are planning to publish a heavily edited clip, so I'm releasing the full version myself. Watch here: tinyurl.com/yeymfb96

Take it in. The first female chancellor. The first housing secretary who's actually lived in social housing. The first education secretary who was on free school meals. An energy secretary who actually believes in aggressively fighting climate change. Not a bad afternoon.
