Horrific scenes out of #Rafah +reports of more casualties/injuries after Israeli airstrike on heavily populated area. Patchy contact with UNRWA & even patchier access of aid trucks into #Gaza: only 30 trucks, heavy movement restrictions + Israeli Forces airstrikes +Hamas rockets

Forced mass displacement of 1 million ppl from #Rafah since mil ops of 6 May. 36 UNRWA shelters now empty from their twice- thrice displaced inhabitants. Critical health services no longer available in Rafah. UNRWA back to #KhanYounis despite almost 100% destroyed facilities.

End of May in #Gaza: šŸ›‘ More than 1 million people - most displaced several times- forced to flee once again, in search of safety that they never find. šŸ›‘All of our 36 UNRWA shelters in #Rafah are empty now. This is where people seek shelter & should be protected at all times

An Israeli airstrike on the U.N.-run al-Sardi school in central Gaza has killed at least 40 people, including 14 children. UNRWA spokesperson Tamara Alrifai says the agency ā€œhas paid the highest toll ever" over the past eight months of Israeli attack.

Today Anne Beathe Tvinnereim met students from UNRWA school in #Jordan who gave her a grand welcome, worthy of Norwayā€™s unwavering support! Thank you Norway MFA for being such a great partner and supporter of #PalestineRefugees

Some say Palestine gave up its right of prosecution under the Oslo Accords so couldn't delegate it to the ICC. But Israel violated Oslo by blocking a Palestinian state. And as the ICJ ruled, the 4th GC bars an occupied authority from giving up its rights. trib.al/IRPxiLH

Nowhere is safe in #Gaza, schools that serve as shelters are now regularly hit, killing people who thought they were safe inside them. An Israeli airstrike on a Gaza school kills over 80 people, Palestinian health officials say apnews.com/article/israelā€¦

If you have seen what weā€™ve seen in Gaza for the past 10 months and youā€™re still on about ā€œbut why does Hamas hide among civiliansā€, I genuinely think something in your moral compass is broken and I donā€™t think you can fix it without some serious self-reflection.

Another day of horror in #Gaza Another school hit with reports of dozens of Palestinian killed among them women, children and older people. Schools, UN facilities and civilian infrastructure are #NOTaTarget šŸ›‘Parties to the conflict must not use schools & other civilian

Their homes destroyed, Palestinian civilians face "an agonizing dilemma": "Stay at the schools turned shelters, hoping for a modicum of security in the desperate conditions of Gaza,ā€ or ā€œflee, knowing that the shelters themselves can become targets." trib.al/VznH0NY

The most painful photo from #Gaza today is that of a pair of newborn twins who were killed with their mum while their dad was getting their birth certificates. Maybe the photo of the surviving dad holding the certificates is actually more painful.

A humanitarian pause to enable #polio vaccination in #Gaza, is that too much to ask for? Gaza had been polio-free for over 20 years.

Tamara Alrifai (@tamaraalrifai) 's Twitter Profile Photo

First case of #polio confirmed in a 10-month-old child in #Gaza in over 20 years, a direct effect of lack of vaccination since war started, most likely because of contaminated water. apnews.com/article/gaza-iā€¦

As ā¦ā¦ā¦AntĆ³nio Guterresā© coins the term Polio-Pause to reiterate call for a humanitarian ceasefire, some 20 aid agencies warn of dangers of a mass #polio outbreak in #Gaza savethechildren.org.uk/news/media-cenā€¦

Evacuation orders in #Gaza mean a continued forced displacement of Gazans who now have, for most, lost everything. With every movement, they lose whatever remaining items they possess. And UNRWA and other aid groups move with people to continue serving them.

ā€œYou are in a dangerous combat zoneā€: most people in #Gaza are told day in day out, until almost the entire strip is now a combat zone, minus 11% of the territory. Gaza was already extremely densely populated before, now there is no place for displaced people to move to.

First day of #polio vax in #Gaza allowed 87,000 children under 10 to be protected against possible paralysis. Campaign by UNRWA World Health Organization (WHO) UNICEF continues, using temporary pauses, to avoid spread of virus.
