President Dr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud marked the 81st anniversary of the Somali Youth League (SYL) by laying flowers to honor its fighters. He was joined by the minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Mohamed Bare Mohamud, and over 500 young people in Mogadishu.

"The Somali Youth League's legacy is one of courage, unity, and a relentless pursuit of freedom," said President Hassan during the ceremony. "As we commemorate their founding, we also renew our commitment to the values they fought for - independence, unity, and national pride.”

The Minister of Ministry of Youth and Sports of Somalia, H.E. Mohamed Bare Mohamud, met with the British 🇬🇧 Ambassador to Somalia🇸🇴, Mr. Mike Nithavrianakis. Their discussion centered on how the UK gov’t can better support Somali youth in areas such as democratization, stabilization, and talent nurturing for Somali athletes.

The International Youth Day celebration, organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Somalia, took place in Mogadishu. The event saw participation from youth representing diverse sectors of society, along with ministers, members of parliament, and representatives from international partners.

Keynote speeches were delivered by Dr. Mary Otieno, Country Rep, UNFPA Somalia, and Mr. Lionel Laurens,Resident Representative of UNDP Somalia, both of whom extended heartfelt congratulations to Somali youth on the occasion of International Youth Day.

Finally, the Minister, Hon. Mohamed Bare Mohamud, who closed the event, congratulated Somali youth on this international day. The Minister also called on Somali youth to take part in the fight against terrorist groups, which he described as the greatest threat to Somali youth.
