I read an essay once that said wealth and intelligence are less associated than most people think.

Been writing scenes for the last year that, frankly, leave me wondering if I can draw them (like a longboat, loaded with supplies, full of characters, moving toward the reader, with a caravel in the background).
Turns out I can... and when they look good, that's very satisfying.

I often base my appreciation of things on, 'Well, how well would I have done it?'
And so, I take a whole lot less for granted :)

Latest read (audio), Last Time (2014) by Colin Goh from Singapore Noir; this short story from filmmaker & cartoonist Goh pops with pop culture references. The last scene's dark-humored and memorable as the investigator finally puts the pieces together... much too late.

Latest read (audio), A Native Hill (1968) by Wendell Berry; ascending the literary scene, writer, poet, eventual activist & environmentalist Berry left his English Dept position at NYU for his native Kentucky. This essay explains why.

We visited the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library. A portion of the Library's devoted to his & Rosalynn's lifetime devotion to humanitarian causes. They are, quite simply, heroes.
