Contrary to common belief, Mary Anning, wasn't obscure or unknown within palaeontological circles. She was a reowned celebrity in Lyme, with her recognition reaching back to her childhood 🐚

👍 What a team.

👍 What a Precambrian-Triassic unconformity.

6 months ago this section was totally hidden from view. Thanks to the volunteers of Charnwood Forest Geopark it's now available for outreach and education.

Left the behind today to head to the Lower Jurassic Birkbeck School of Natural Sciences field trip. Dinosaur trackways and dinoturbated rocks in gorge, folding and a nice unconformity.

Did you know? The Jurassic Coast is not the only place in England with Jurassic rocks! During the Jurassic, much of England was covered by shallow seaway, from Wessex, through the Midlands, all the way to Yorkshire. You can find Jurassic fossils along the entire stretch!

May 1, 1665, birthday of British naturalist and geologist John Woodward.
He studied the organic origin of fossils and recognized the stratigraphic succession of sedimentary rocks. His collection became the founding stone of the modern Sedgwick Museum
