Excited to finally be able to share this news, I am overjoyed to have been awarded the John C. Marsden medal from The Linnean Society of London. I am honoured to be on this list alongside the other incredible medal recipients, especially my former office mate Anne-Claire Fabre @[email protected]!

Quite proud of my kid’s themed 11th bday party - yiga & korok mask making, sword fighting for gummy bugs, reuniting koroks for korok seeds (golden marshmallows), archery against octoballoons with fake rocks & cake of Link fighting a stone talus!

I love , especially as it means I get to visit my favourite kids Fircroft Primary and see how excited they all are about nature and palaeontology. I’m always so impressed with how much they know and the great questions they ask!

This is such a important thread. Agree 100%. I’ve even been told by other PoCs that my experience and perspective aren’t relevant for attendees at PoC networking events because of precisely this perception. This division is so false and hurtful and serves no purpose at all.

🧵We, British Indians, rarely get explicit mention in the discourse around racism. It’s because, in part, we’re perceived as ‘successful’ when compared to other PoC minorities.

That doesn’t mean we aren’t discriminated against; it means, we’re expected to put up & shut up

Lies. My favourite trousers were destroyed by deer in this park because I had a biscuit in my back pocket. They literally ripped my pockets off to get at it. Vicious trouser killing machines. I still miss those trousers, they were perfect. Most deer are ok I guess.

Alu is officially my least favourite mobile element. This is clearly a lose-lose story - no tail and increased risk of neural tube defects. Keep your folic acid and give me back a tail!

10% of your genome is composed of traces of Alu, a mobile element that has jumped around our DNA for millions of years doing nothing important. But one of those jumps may have caused our distant ancestors to lose their tails, about 15 million years ago! nature.com/articles/s4158…

You are getting very sleepy….

Saw this amazing model yesterday at the impressive ammonite museum in Perambalur - they are also protecting some of the key fossiliferous Cretaceous outcrops in this area. A lovely break from the scorching heat while working those very outcrops!
