Got an email from Indie Press Revolution detailing changes to their Sales Agreement, which include - Discounted sales to libraries & schools - Not carrying games that use gen AI - Allowing their employees to buy games at wholesale rate I continue to appreciate how IPR functions.

Got 18 kids in my afterschool TTRPG writing class. Getting ready for the brawl over PICKING A SETTING. Cause I got 20+, y’all, and we don’t play till everybody says “HECK YEA!” Some of the best games come out of tie-breaker mashups, like Rebel Gobz or Gods of the Beastworlds…

Michael Low | Luck of Legends YES!!! I did an homage to that one (and also grandpa's love of trains) because it was just too good. I want to write more of these too - they were a lot of fun. itch.io/c/3673021/trai…

Update: they mashed up Punk Pantheon and Transdimensional High to make God High. The old gods are too involved in petty conflict to do their jobs, so new ones are being trained to take over. Since they couldn’t agree on an era, there are gods from all times at the school.

i think a big part of what makes rules interesting is the intentional choice to break them (often choosing to break a rule is much more interesting than taking an action without a rule trying to stop you!) and i like it when games are honest about that

This just fully explained a thing about my gaming history I wasn’t always able to articulate: I played DnD 3.5 JUST TO BREAK RULES. It was a weird lit analysis project mining bits from different books so I could do things people thought shouldn’t be possible, LEGALLY.

People in TTRPGs often talk about how it’s hard to find players open to new rules. … why? Walk into a room of board gamers & MOST people are down for a new game. Are TTRPGs really that “unique,” or have we just been doing it wrong so long we can’t change?

To celebrate the completion of Cryptid Creeks, I’ve treated myself to a couple of Japanese goodies. What do you do (if anything) to reward yourself for milestones?

Seconded, THIRDED, and MULTIPLIED TO INFINITY! TRULY *all-ages* design, like designing scissors for people with arthritis, requires focus, care, and streamlined elegance. It prevents careless and lazy reliance on "in-group" audience knowledge. In short, it's GOOD design.

I sometimes call my dog "hound," which then in my head became "hund" (I don't speak German, I don't know why), which then became "hunderkind" (like wunderkind?) and now I'm obsessed with a RIFTS campaign about a Kraftwerk-style EDM band of dog-boys ... HUNDERKIND 🐶🤘🎹🎵
