Today we start the mission of the icj to #Tajikistan regarding access to justice of #women – survivors of gender-based violence, with meetings with civil society, UN Women, OHCHR and the Committee on Women of Tajikistan.

We are starting our Expert roundtable today in Dushanbe, #Tajikistan, on Access to justice for #women. Looking forward to discussions with experts from the Ministries, the General Prosecutor, the Supreme Court, judges and lawyers, civil society and international organizations.

“According to the Constitution of Tajikistan, international legal acts recognized by Tajikistan are a constituent part of the legal system. In case of disparity between national and international law, international acts apply,” highlights Patricia Schulz, icj Commissioner.

“The definition of rape needs to be changed to include lack of consent, legal aid for women victims of violence should be mandatory, and justice actors must receive compulsory gender-based violence training,” Dilbar Turakhanova on the preliminary findings of the ongoing research.
