🚨New Episode🚨

Lenin, Mensheviks, Nazis; fleeing Moscow, Berlin, Paris; arriving in America, lost letters, torture, and death.

This family history is a remarkable 20th century tale. Alex Gourevitch talks to his father, Peter Gourevitch.

Ladies and gentleman, the aulos, the final thing Plato heard, and a reminder that the ancient Greeks were going wild for the gnarliest skrawk imaginable. Return. To. Tradition. open.spotify.com/track/3rj3vPlg…

Israel's closest parallels now imo are the post empire right-wing states of Eastern Europe during the interwar period that had strong domestic fascist movements, particularly Romania - irredentist ethnonationalism mixed with religious apocalypticism and geopolitical cynicism

Carolin Fohlin is one of the economists whose work I admire the most. I saw her speak in 2016 at Goethe-Universität when she was a guest professor for financial history. She's a leading scholar of the history of German finance and corporate governance. She knows what fascism looks like.

Superb piece by Eskandar Sadeghi-Boroujerdi on the complex history of Iran–Palestine solidarity, the former's shifting regional strategy, and the meaning of Operation True Promise:

Solidarity with the two army horses who bolted from the military barracks in London and galloped down the streets.. Unlike those who ride them and blindly obey orders, these magnificent creatures made a bid for freedom.
