Cliché advice, but one I constantly forget is that the night brings counsel Often in the evening, I run in circles, processing the same thoughts and ideas because my brain is tired and can't generate anything new Sleep on it and I'll wake up with 2-3 fresh, much better ideas

Practice can differ from rules (or _your_ interpretation of them) in any field, particularly in judging contests Only practice or expert advice shows how it really works And rules keep changing, so if you leave for a while you'll have to relearn them when you come back

You'd think you need deep knowledge to get good results Web3 sec's a counterexample—newbies often crush it by spotting simple mistakes fast Maybe 1 day the low-hanging fruit will be gone, thanks to tools or more SRs, but rn it still works for some, even if it's getting harder

Sometimes you just point out the rules, and it's enough to double the payout (contests, BB), no need to do anything else But after the first reject, it's often not worth it to continue

The best way for me to learn and remember is to start with theory, then follow up with 2-3 stories or examples to fully grasp the concept + include a summary at the end Otherwise, I don’t retain it well

We often don’t really know what drives our wins Maybe it was the cold shower that gave me a 1% boost, so I think that’s the secret But I overlook everything else—gym, time blocks, daily consistency, rest, background, people around me, etc.

Often, I read books and articles not to learn new things, but to remind myself of the old ones and get a different angle on certain topics

One of my biggest time & energy wasters is DYOR on topics far from my expertise I may cherry-pick extremes and misinterpret rules, while an expert's help could cost way less than my time/energy Asking for help is a good skill But it can be hard to find an expert you trust

One more advantage of BB is it feels fairer, as many have mentioned While it's far from guaranteed and can take months (sometimes years) to get paid, or the project may just disappear, it still _feels fairer for the project and your input when you're paid for severity, not rarity

When you have a social life, it's much harder to burn out because there's always someone who wants your attention, so you basically have to step away from work

Grit is a nice word — “strenuously toward challenges, maintaining effort and interest over years despite failure, adversity, and plateaus in progress.”

I mostly like to focus on one thing and not spread myself too thin, but having 2-3 projects in parallel and maybe switching every 2 weeks can be good too

There's usually a sweet spot, even with focus—focusing too much leads to diminishing returns, hurting other areas like social life or sports, which drains energy overall + leaves you feeling worse in the following days And obviously, not focusing enough leads to poorer results

When nothing feels interesting, it's usually a sign I need to take a break and process my thoughts I often set a timer for 30-40 minutes and just "nap": close my eyes, put on noise-cancelling headphones, and let my brain do its thing without feeding it new information—only

As always, a great talk on @CBER_Forum . This time from Justin Drake (Ethereum Foundation). Why BTC security seems unsustainable. My notes/summary 👇 - After a couple of halvings, an attack seems feasible. Low fees% in blockchain security (relies on mining new BTC for miners)
