Tonight the DC community showed up IN FORCE with students, educators, caretakers across all wards sharing their hopes and deep fears about spending cuts and the coming budget. One overwhelming message- Mayor Muriel Bowser & Council of DC need to listen to community before making cuts!

This is AMAZING WORK. So why would Chancellor Ferebee and Mayor Muriel Bowser want to cut their budget by over $1 million dollars before they move into a brand new building? Make it make sense. Support our students, support our educators and support our schools! Restore the funding now!

It was great to meet with students from all across the city about retaining teachers, ensuring safe communities inside and outside of schools, and providing immersive learning opportunities for all. EmpowerEd

Let's be clear about what this means- a budget process that will be held during June, July potentially into August meaning far lower public engagement. As DC residents take a break and enjoy summer, the Council will make the final crucial decisions not under the public eye.

Educators showing up today in #Ward7 to let Phil Mendelson know we MUST prioritize experiential learning, educator retention, community schools & more in the budget. In a city of our wealth, it’s only a “tough budget year” if we fail to ask those w/ capacity to INVEST to protect
