.@EmmaKurz from Dafna Bar-Sagi’s laboratory @NYUGrossman talked about her research on the connection between anti-tumor activity and aerobic exercise, to find a way to mimic these effects >>> 4/7 biotechniques.com/cancer-researc… #IWD2023 #WomenInSTEM #IWD #February11

#OpenAccess in @nature: Microbiota-derived 3-IAA influences chemotherapy efficacy in #PancreaticCancer nature.com/articles/s4158… “microbiota-derived tryptophan metabolite indole-3-acetic acid (3-IAA) is enriched in pancreatic cancer patients who respond to treatment”

Given extensive evidence implicating the gut microbiome in oncogenesis of pancreatic cancer (& our work w MD Anderson Cancer Center NYU Grossman School of Medicine showing exercise modulates PDA), a new study from Penn Medicine provides further justification to begin to connect these emerging observations

Coolest study of the year in ⁦Science Magazine⁩ uses our mammalian counterparts to address a major clinical issue: immobilized patients rapidly thrombose, yet hibernating bears remain clot-free all winter (use HSP w/ vast therapeutic implications🐻)! science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…

~32,000 patients are diagnosed with cancer of unknown primary (CUP) every year, the prognosis is often poor… if identified instead w/ a new #machinelearning classifier, patients with CUP could be more likely to receive appropriately targeted therapies and have better outcomes.

🆕 Science Immunology Contrary to science dogma, the programmed cell death (PD-1) receptor on immune cells exists as a dimer (not just as a monomer). Its stimulation (checkpoint agonist) may be well suited to treat/prevent autoimmune diseases science.org/doi/10.1126/sc… Elliot Philips

We’ve known exercise improves human health for decades, but how? In nature brilliant Gemma Conroy summarizes cellular level mechanisms (secretome, EVs, myokines, systemic immunity etc)… honored to have our work exploring a therapeutic role for exercise in pancreatic cancer via

Funny how two of the more interesting pieces of data at #ASCO25 have little to do with extraneous medications per se, but rather the body’s circadian rhythm and physiology: 1: Exercise after surgery 2: Checkpoint inhibitors in the morning
