Stroke #CPD: Ebihara et al 2006 studied the effect of olfactory stimulation and dysphagia. Results showed nasal inhalation of black pepper oil for 1min 👃🏼 = ⬆️onset of swallow reflex ⬆️swallow mvts This showed how stimulating CN I & II might benefit stroke related dysphagia.

Did the Dysarthria Impact Profile for the 1st time in a while today. I love completing it with pts b/c I can sense they feel so ‘seen’ & understood by the ax, such specific Qs that they’ve never been asked before about how their difficulties may impact diff aspects of their life.

Distraction/diverted attention techniques for pts w FND: looking for suggestions on how to divert attention in a pt w severe functional dysphagia when eating. It’s normally something we do sitting down and focusing on the food so grateful for any safe suggestions!

Diving into supporting GPs to become more aware of the evidence base around thickened fluids. Understandably many prescribe TFs for dysphagia & cut out the middleman (SLT). But this might make pts miserable, sicker plus omit informed consent. Who’s diving?
