🙌 🙌 This is such an important distinction ⬇️. These maps are temperature predictions and actual coral reef monitoring is critical to measure the impacts on bleaching and mortality. Monitoring can also identify locations and species that aren't bleaching despite heat exposure,

Please help RT 🐠🐡🐟 Data request + collaboration: I'm looking for data collaborators on a global reef fish study! This is a long shot, but I'm trying to better include data collectors outside of the usual orgs/locations. Please DM for more details. #TeamFish

This July, Fiji launched their first-ever National Hub For Coral Reef Conservation: icriforum.org/fiji-coral-hub “The action plan will provide a strategic focus to help us identify what we need to do to safeguard Fiji’s coral reefs, and by when,” said WCS's Paul van Nimwegen

Last week, we had the first task force meeting for the development of the new MCA in East Pemba. The task force consists of members of the Government and NGOs and will go around Pemba to present the project to communities in September. We are getting there!

A significant portion of Fiji’s coral reefs are resilient to climate change. WCS Fiji helps local communities develop sustainable management plans to conserve them. “It’s their resources. We are there to support them,” said WCS’s Paul van Nimwegen at #COP16Colombia. #forcoral

Unless we secure seascapes in the right places, we could end up with the wrong 30% protection that does little to protect biodiversity, sustain a healthy planet, and deliver key ocean services, write WCS's Stacy Jupiter and Dr Emily Darling. #COP16Colombia pbs.org/wnet/nature/bl…

Counting up km2 of ocean protected is not the best way to measure sustainable ocean management, Dr Emily Darling and I argue in a Nature comment. We urge practitioners to focus on effectiveness and equity, as well as tools beyond area-based management. pbs.org/wnet/nature/bl…
