Our recent findings support recs that children 5-18yo remain up to date with COVID19 vax 💉 given low vaccination coverage + waning effectiveness over time against COVID-19 hospitalizations.⁦Mayo Clinic Children's⁩ ⁦MMWR⁩ ⁦OvercomingCOVID19⁩ cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/7…

Wonderful to work with this multi-disciplinary team describing ECMO infections. Adult ID (myself included) has so much to learn from our pediatric colleagues where ECMO has been used for decades journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/02… Emily Levy MD FAAP Adi Graeme MacLaren Giles Peek

Long term intestinal GBS colonization represents a threat of #sepsis to neonates and here we show how multiple modes of protection combine to restrict GBS in the intestines.

We found GBS frequently in the intestinal microbiota of premature infants in the first few months following birth. Interestingly, we found the relative abundance of GBS negatively correlated with the concentration of IgA in paired milk samples.

To test if maternal IgA could protect against GBS colonization in vivo, we turned to a mouse model of vaginal colonization and transmission of GBS during birth. This results in early-onset like sepsis consistent with the lung as a route of infection in the pups.

💨sNO to the #ECMO circuit?? What if we can we stop platelets from being activated in the extracorporeal circuit, particularly on the membrane lung, having them working on the patient, to prevent bleeding?? Just put nitric oxide on the sweep gas flow... Giles Peek #ELSO2024

How do you we identify patients more likely to respond to angiotensin II? 🤔 Excited to share our work, signaling ⬇️ ICU and 30-day mortality in patients requiring renal replacement therapy that receive it compared to standard of care! Find it here: sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

A school-aged Texas child has died from measles as the outbreak now hits 124. They tragically were unvaccinated. This should not be happening in 2025. apnews.com/article/measle…

Please vaccinate your children to protect them from this extremely contagious serious disease. If you have questions, talk with your child’s doctor. Remember that we are also protecting infants in our community who are too young to yet receive #MMR. #measles
