Wilhelm von Gloeden was one of the earliest known openly gay photographers. Known for his breathtaking nudes shots, he photographed young men acting out fantasies based on classical themes and romanticised scenes of pastoral life in the face of the new industrial era.

Terribly emotional last week in Strasbourg. This is my last speech in the EP as an MEP representing our beautiful region. Moving & unusual comments from EP Vice-President Rainer Wieland who represents #Seaham’s twin town in Germany

Listen from 9am - we discuss how Parisians responded to Prussian bombardment and starvation under siege, the difficulties of defining the Paris Commune and why the suppression of the Commune was so violent

The government talks about immigration systems based on attracting the brightest and best - here’s the reality. A celebrated academic being deported by a mean-spirited system that doesn’t recognise the needs of academics conducting their research abroad.

I have such mixed feeling about this. Yes, participation is good and should be better resourced. But being part of an audience is also a (significant) form of participation & 'doing' culture, & should be recognised as such.

It's a while (over 10 years!) since I left TheNewArtGalleryWalsall. But I'm still very proud of having worked with some fantastic artists on this residency programme, & of having had the privilege of curating exhibitions for a wonderful audience.
