Working on an idea for a brigade command game with a focus on span of command and detection/signal emissions as a key element. It's also been a good chance to practice a different art style than I usually do.

Playing around with unit graphics. I think I've settled on the background circle in a color to indicate sides, but I might try some variations of shape/texturing on that too.

Currently play-testing my newest wargame called "Open Battle". It's an education wargame to teach the very basics of military operations (to civilians). Wanna play as the Empire or the Coalition?

Spot on post that I’m going to piggy back off of to talk about the importance of realistic terrain in tactical wargames. History is shaped by the terrain of its battlefields, and the warriors who knew how to use it to their advantage. Use real world terrain!

Slowly doing some more stuff, these are divisional support cards that the Brigade commander can request. Divided between doing abstract stuff like this or picking specific capabilities for capability cards.

MICRO GAME PLAYTESTERS NEEDED! I am leading a micro game design jam with designers from around the world. The theme is "warfighting" and we need some blind playtesting and feedback. Any help would be appreciated, instructions below. 🎲 🔗drive.google.com/drive/folders/…

Glad to have been able to work on this piece with Ken. Uncovering and defining the 'strategic fingerprint' of each model was a lot of fun and is a fascinating area of research on its own. Currently doing the same work with the game of Diplomacy, coming out soon as well!

Playtesting last night. Was trying out my sewer combat game. Played it single blind with one side on markers with some dummies.

Units finalized (Red and Blue brigade with some extras for fun). Time to print, laminate, and sticker the blocks, and then convert an old map to use for this.

My opinion on Matrix games is half of "that's really awesome" and the other half is "people who don't know shit about Wargaming use matrix games to pretend that they are doing a wargame". The latter is infuriating me more and more.

DSET day 1 completed. I forgot to take a picture of Strike from Space set up for demoing, but I'll try to remember to take a photo tomorrow.

Patrik was nice enough to give me to read one of the few printed copies of his thesis shortly before he defended it last year, it's really interesting stuff, so go listen to him!

Playing around with various different studies quantifications of tanks combat power, which is generating some amusing results when one attempts to normalize the various datasets against each other.

Let's talk #AI and #wargaming. There's a lot of hype around AI-enabled wargaming -- from adversary emulation to straight up designing games. I think there's a lot of value to be leveraged at a cost. But we need to be clear eyed in what AI is -- and what it can and cannot do. 🧵

I now have the naval wargaming equivilent of the dead sea scrolls. The lost unpublished Fletcher Pratt papers from his wargame 1939-1945. Rules, letters, ships cards etc... Look out for the Fletcher Pratt Naval Wargaming Companion in due course.

Working on some more cards for Jaws of the Dragon. Did some tweaks, and added two new ones: Intel agency deep-strike operations against enemy high value aircraft, and cards to represent the effect of the Chinese gaining the ability to have loitering UAV's over Taiwan.
