"Racism is not a known side effect" Sorry guys, I'm not on board with that kind of smug PR bullshit from a company that makes a drug whose side effects are - Impaired judgement - Aggressive behavior

How to survive the intense smoke outside: * Stay indoors as much as possible * Get a high quality filter for your central air (if you have one) * Get a HEPA air filter for close proximity * Humidify. Get a humidifier for space size or run the shower and boil water for a bit.

I've been away from Twitter for much too long. I miss the days when it was a Ruby and tech geek thing. Any suggestions of new people to follow?

One thing I find amusing is that a lot of the negative reviews on Amazon seem to conflate having a difficult to read style with rigor and they knock the book for being unscientific or shallow because it's easy to read, like x.com/danluu/status/…

A rant. We’re very close with all our neighbors around us. We BBQ together, have holiday parties, chat out on walks, or around the fire pit. I have no idea what their political lean is, but I know they’re good people. That’s real life. Then you get on social media or watch cable

Neutral isn't fair. Fair isn't neutral. Fair is taking the side of what is right. Neutrality is not taking a side. When action is required neutrality is the enemy. If you don't know what is right you have the duty to figure it out and then take action.

The two major disasters of last week could have been avoided with some basic resiliency processes. 1. Smoke testing of all updates before deploy (Crowdstrike, both sender/receiver) 2. Multi-region cloud deployments (Azure location outage)

It’s terrifying that both of these things are true at the same time in this world: • computers drive cars around • the state of the art test to check that you’re not a computer is whether you can successful identify stop signs in pictures
