In response to patients and the public, we want to require those who commission, undertake and support research to provide feedback to the public and communities on their contributions. Elspeth Mathie explains why this is important ⬇️ (2/6)

Elspeth Mathie By 2030 we’ll: ✔️ strengthen our expectation that the public receives feedback on research and the impact of their contributions ✔️strengthen our expectation that researchers feed back results in inclusive ways ✔️ improve reporting of public partnerships in NIHR research (3/6)

Elspeth Mathie Feedback is important to build effective longer-term relationships, and encourage people, including new and diverse communities, to continue to be involved in health and care research. Diane gives us a public perspective 👇 (5/6)

This is part of a series of ARC national events on PPI research organised with NIHR ARC South London PenARC (NIHR ARC South West Peninsula) NIHR ARC East of England Importance of Public Involvement Research | ARC East of England #PPI #PublicInvolvement

We’re pleased to welcome speakers Lauren Asare, Naomi Morley and Julia Burton from the PPIE team at PenARC (NIHR ARC South West Peninsula) who will discuss their research and conceptual review on emotions in PPI: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.11… #PPI #PublicInvolvement

Stan Papoulias, PPI research theme lead at NIHR ARC South London is welcoming people to the webinar which they will chair and which will be facilitated by Elspeth Mathie theme lead of Inclusive Involvement in Research at NIHR ARC East of England #PPI #PublicInvolvement

Lauren Asare PenARC (NIHR ARC South West Peninsula) says the idea for the conceptual review came about after an experience of high emotions during a PPI meeting and the realisation that emotions can shape the context around research and strengthen the impact of what was said. #PPI #PublicInvolvement

Julia Burton PenARC (NIHR ARC South West Peninsula) references William Wordsworth’s definition of poetry as "the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings: it takes its origin from emotion recollected in tranquillity" as being highly relevant to emotions in #PPI #PublicInvolvement

Naomi Morley PenARC (NIHR ARC South West Peninsula) says that the researchers defined 'sensitive topics' as those that “evoke strong emotions, controversy, or discomfort due to personal, societal or cultural implications” and may involve harm, stigma or legal threats #PPI #PublicInvolvement

#PublicInvolvement in #research often overlooks people with learning disabilities & autism, leaving their health and care needs unmet. To address this, NIHR ARC East of England & 2 local MENCAPs are working together to develop effective engagement methods, like events. 🔗arc-eoe.nihr.ac.uk/news-blogs/blo…
