🚨Hyped to share our new nature article! We show that crocodile head scales develop from compressive folding that arises from constrained skin growth 🐊🔬 Really proud of this one - it's cool 😎 Please read & share! We are hiring two Postdocs Florida Museum FLORIDA! 1) Paleobiology + AI (U.S. National Science Foundation -funded, with Bloch Lab @UF ): explore.jobs.ufl.edu/en-us/job/5341… 2) AI for Biology (open-ended): explore.jobs.ufl.edu/en-us/job/5342… Deadline Jan 15th. Flexible start date. Please, RT! See also biovisionlab.com

We got the nature cover 🎉! Read our article to learn how compressive forces sculpt the intricate head scales of crocodiles 🐊 The Milinkovitch-Tzika lab Genetics & Evolution Université de Genève nature.com/articles/s4158…

What is the function of the elongate tail in elasmobranch #rays? A new hypothesis with Júlia Chaumel in The Royal Society Proceedings B (shorturl.at/PmfYD) shows that the tail of cownose rays (and a few other species studied so far) has an elaborate lateral line.

Check out this "donut" shark! From the Florida Museum - malformed embryos of the sandbar shark (Carcharhinus plumbeus). Ella Nicklin CT scanned this specimen to show very odd development of the vertebral column, with no division of the centra and odd mineralization! 🍩🦈 #shark

🚨🐣 Our new paper is out PLOS Biology! Sonic hedgehog inhibition transforms feathers into ancestral protofeathers-like structures. These units recover after hatching, highlighting their remarkable developmental robustness! journals.plos.org/plosbiology/ar… The Milinkovitch-Tzika lab

Thrilled that our image was selected for the cover of Royal Society Publishing's Open Biology! We experimentally induced a developmental shift from normal footpad scales to mechanically-driven folding on chicken embryo digits 🐣🔬. Stay tuned—the full article is coming soon! 🧪 #DevBio
