Question for chem teachers: I heard that goggle sanitizer cabinets stop killing bacteria after a couple years: the UV bulbs need more frequent replacement than the manufacturers claim. I can't find any info online related to this, though. Does anyone have the research on this?

Many thanks to the Tweeter (whose name I forgot) who had the suggestion to end the school year by asking students - first individually, then in pairs, then as a class - to list the 5 big ideas of the course. I am so glad I did that.

There's no such thing as a "good school" or a "bad school." There are only schools where the students are becoming their best selves, and schools where they're not.

The problem with grades is Goodhart's Law: “when a measure becomes a target, it ceases to be a good measure.”

"Schools just aren't of value to kids." YES - and whether a given teacher burns out depends on how much space they have in their school community to change this fact. Often the structures above us require us to maintain oppressive systems.

Don't design your classroom to benefit the majority of your students. Design your classroom to benefit your most marginalized students.

End-of-year faculty meeting debate: should an A+ mean the student mastered every learning expectation for the course? Or should an A+ mean the student also went beyond this, making connections/inferences/discoveries above the explicit scope of the course?
