We’ve announced new strike dates in England, following the Government’s failure to offer a credible plan on jobs or pay. Listen to Jack Fletcher explain why 👇

“We have thousands of doctors looking for work who can’t find jobs.” RDC chair Jack Fletcher explains why resident doctors have announced strike action to Nick Ferrari on LBC this morning.

Right now doctors are applying for jobs in Aug 2026. Tens of thousands of these doctors will be turned away. No govt plan we’ve seen will change that. Patients are in corridors & we’re turning doctors away. We need concrete plans now - not changes in 2027. Our door is open

Well given Streeting hasn't put forward any commitments to solve the issues of medical unemployment in the next two years, I can't see how this is a change in policy.

Wes Streeting Department of Health and Social Care I see you’ve deleted the clip we commented on- whereby you admitted withholding doctor jobs due to strikes - at the detriment of waiting lists, patients and the health service - is the current line, would love to hear you rectify this eregious error

A 2% real terms pay cut is the real slap in the face. Let alone the tone deaf paragraphs on resident doctors’ employment prospects. There appears to be very little grasp of why we are actively haemorrhaging doctors from the NHS.

"If we want to fix the NHS for patients in the future, we need to ensure that doctors we have trained are able to get jobs, while at the same time we keep the ones we do have by valuing them properly." The BMA deputy chair Emma Runswick 🏳️‍🌈 speaks about resident doctor strike action.

Wes Streeting Cutting waiting lists starts with employing unemployed doctors. 1000s of doctors have been denied career progression to get the specialists we need. We must stop privitising the NHS, paying billions to management consultants and instead focus on retaining the doctors we have.

Why are resident doctors going on strike?  While patients wait longer to be seen in A&E, too many qualified doctors who could treat them can’t get a training job.

Next time you wait 12 hours to be seen by a doctor in A&E, remember that 14 doctors applied to treat you. Doctors are unemployed, and cannot find work, whilst patients wait longer.

Very sad to be told student midwives have received emails from universities telling them not to speak to me or other media about this story. Just to repeat - any student midwife can contact me and no one will know. I will protect your identity.

5,399 qualified doctors applied to become surgeons last year. But there were only 630 training jobs available. Doctors are sat at home unemployed, unable to find work, whilst patients wait and suffer.
