The tragedy of thinking deeply in Ghana is that you canโ€™t unsee the dysfunction. You see how institutions bend and how potential is wasted. You realise the country is both poor in talent and in consequences.

Jude Duncan Historically, our troubles have been political expediency not knowledge. Most of the problems are solvable without necessarily being knowledgeable about the sector but minister must serve the interests of political group not the Ghanaian.

My stance on having a medical doctor as Health Minister changed because of one particular person. His time in office made it clear that those credentials alone do not deliver results. In opposition, you are indeed very wise. Separate politics from the health sector. ๐Ÿ™

In an ideal system yes and we truly wish that were our reality. But the reality is wards are full and ICU space is limited. You simply can't discharge patients from the ER when they haven't recovered, so they're kept there. And that inevitably affects new admissions to the ER.

One thing I don't get is our leaders travel a lot and most of them have experienced quality healthcare before so they know what a functioning system should look like but for some reason they become blind when it comes to fixing ours tsw.

Anyway, I blame us doctors too weโ€™ve adapted to the dysfunction. Weโ€™re always improvising, always โ€œmaking it work.โ€ You even mention a standard practice recognized worldwide on the ward and youโ€™re told, โ€œthatโ€™s not how we do it here, you don't come to the ward.โ€ It's our fault
