In my current project, I've found the memoir 'Inward Hunger' by Eric Williams, the Caribbean historian and first Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, really useful in understanding the region around WW2. Here is a photo of him with David Ben-Gurion in 1962 Jerusalem.

One way that I've been able to productively discuss the current tragedy in Israel/Palestine with my many African students is by discussing the history of Liberia, and the coup there that overthrew Americo-Liberian dominance in the 1980s. There are resonances that click in fast.
