Last time I was in Melbourne I walked through Carlton Gardens on my way back from the library one day & there was a group of people breakdancing most impressively, I stopped & watched for a while. So why weren’t they at the Olympics? *insert rant about class/race/white Australia*

I was already mad at all of this for a range of reasons I could rant to you about (related to privilege/class/race) and wondered how the rest of the Australian breakdancing community felt about it, and I guess here’s the answer. Doesn’t exactly give a good name to academics… x.com/disabilitystor…

I realise this may make me an enemy within my own disciplinary group (and a nerd just for posting), but I recently have had to use APA in a book I'm co-editing, and I think I may prefer it now. It's not quite right for historical sources, I understand, but it's so much quicker.

We have some of the highest-paid university vice-chancellors in the WORLD and yet they seem to have run the sector into the ground, producing a sector unloved by either side of politics and which has largely lost its social licence: afr.com/work-and-caree…

Writing a lecture on art for my UON course on Australian protest today (& planning an international protest music playlist to accompany). Confident the students think I am the nerdiest nerd on campus - & even more so when I impel them to listen to Public Enemy & Mikis Theodorakis

Just bought my first punnet of strawberries since getting back from the UK (where I ate approx 1 punnet of berries per day): most disappointing.

Yesterday on campus 3 people on whom it would be impossible to perform an abortion were protesting abortion (till moved on) & as horrid as it was, it was amazing to see a row of academics standing around them to ensure that no students became distressed by their posters/presence.

Triumphalist, sweeping & inaccurate conservative histories will be written in the future proudly declaring the introduction of same sex marriage by the Libs & refusal by the ALP to add sexuality & gender diversity in the census (which will not contain even 1/4 of the nuances).

Today in my University of Newcastle history of protest course we're talking about LGBTQ+ protest, & spending some time reading this Gay Liberation Manifesto (by Sydney Gay Liberation, 1972) in tutorials - another brilliant item from the State Library of NSW collection collection.sl.nsw.gov.au/record/74VKPVp…
