Another personal and vulnerable story here at #FIX19 Mary McLean, MD : “This is a pear. The shape of my body when I was two times my current size.” Physician obesity bias. First conversation I’ve heard on this topic. Be kind to each other. Accept each other.

We need studies which are gender and sexual orientation inclusive. Alcoholism and #IPV don’t choose between different sociodemographic groups. Our degrees don’t confer a protective bubble. If you have a story, when you’re ready, share it. #alcoholism #stopthestigma

The power in being underrepresented isn't in the possession of a skin color, income, gender, sexual orientation, or physical restrictions, but rather in how those traits augment personal narratives and perspectives to, in turn, enrich the conversations and interactions around us.

After 10 years of being interviewed or conducting interviews in medicine I believe URM applicants should be interviewed by at least 1 URM interviewer. Ideally, this is a faculty member who is appropriately compensated for their time. Can also be a senior resident or nurse.

The Mentorship Matrix: "It’s helped me to understand that each person I meet can teach me something – and very seldom will a single person be able to mentor me on everything that I need to advance in my career.'" natureindex.com/news-blog/tool…

Mentoring Tip: Say yes to an opportunity that meets 1 of 2 criteria: 1. Allows you to work with someone who stretches you mental and professional boundaries OR 2. Allows you to work on something that ignites your sense of purpose. You don't need both but you absolutely need one.

Imposter syndrome got me out here feeling unaccomplished because I'm comparing myself to a person who graduated college when I was 3.

I wrote this deeply personal piece and I chose bravery over fear. My OpEd in today’s STAT about why I left my faculty position in academia last month and what losing Black faculty means for our students and patients. statnews.com/2020/01/16/bla…

I met 5 URiM mentees this season from various schools outside of Boston. So happy we connect regularly in person and as a group via #WhatsApp and #googlehangouts. I'm so happy all 5 of them matched during #Match2020! Folks, 5 more URiM physicians joining our workforce!

Wow. Someone sent me the Justin Bullock NEJM piece as a reference to use in a paper I'm writing with a colleague. Thank you for sharing your story! I hope others can read and learn from your experience as well. tinyurl.com/wybcdru

When assessing #medical trainees we often love name-brand med schools/high board scores. Must remember that not everyone has advantage of background/$$ to get in and pay $$ for test prep. To me, HOW and WHY you got where you are is important too. #DiversityandInclusion #MedEd
