We kicked off with FameLab Switzerland Basel edition yesterday. I had an amazing time hosting and hearing some very creative 3-min talks. Thank you Science Slam Club Basel for this opportunity 😁

Do researchers face writer's block? Yes, they do. Putting your ideas in words, compellingly and engagingly isn't easy. Here's our list of "Essentials of Scientific Writing" for doctoral students who are just starting. #scientificwriting #publishing

As of now, researchers in Switzerland can – for the first time in three years – apply for an ERC Advanced Grant from #HorizonEurope. 🗓️ The call will be ongoing until 29 August. Full association with the programme remains crucial for Swiss #science and the Swiss #economy.

CAREER UPDATE: The Microbial Ecosystems Laboratory will be active starting Jan 2025 at Biodesign Institute at Arizona State University and ASU School of Molecular Sciences, where I will begin as an assistant professor. We’ll explore how interactions at the microscale influence global functions of microbial communities.

I continue to be somewhat disappointed by Oxford Nanopore. Is this normal? New kit, fresh supplies, pretty clean samples but portion of good pores goes down rapidly. Is this normal?!

I think that microbes experience nutrient limitation in a continuous way, but experiments aren't usually designed to capture that. Thoughts (and massive concept map) from Michael Manhart and I in the Microbial Systems and Synthetic Biology themed issue: sciencedirect.com/science/articl…
