Great place indeed… students below trying to understand implications of reservoir architecture, trap geometry and fault properties for CCS

See below for this exciting opportunity to sail as an outreach office on the IODP JTrack expedition! Drilling through the plate boundary that ruptured during the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami. Amy Gough and I will be there from Heriot-Watt University, with >50 other scientists..

Back home after a fantastic few days at #IAS2024, where I presented my work from the last (almost) two years Seismic Strat & Sedimentology Research Group! #EquatorialAtlanticGateway & #KuroshioCurrent in #Taiwan. Great to see some familiar faces and meet new #sedimentologists in #Aberdeen. IAS Meeting of Sedimentology Aberdeen 2024 🪨🌊

Both the North Pacific and North Atlantic have astonishing marine heat anomalies right now. The purple shading are sea surface temperature departures of 15 degrees F. I sampled a +17F SE of St John’s (Dark red is +10-13F)

Greenland is vulnerable to melting when CO2 concentration is even lower than today! Soil from the base of an ice core at the summit of Greenland shows it was 90% ice-free within the last 1 million yrs, reinforcing its high sensitivity to future warming theconversation.com/ancient-poppy-…

Great to see this new preprint from Hariharan Ramachandran and co. on assessing fault leakage for carbon storage. This is part of a suite of fast-screening tools for screening storage sites that we're developing at Heriot-Watt University, as CCS needs to be massively ramped up in the years ahead..
