In 2018, Dr. Anne Pluymakers joined the rock mechanical group at TU Delft with an independent (VENI) grant from the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) to study fluid-rock interactions in carbonate rocks, and was promoted to assistant professor in 2020.

She is fascinated by rock and fault mechanics and how this is affected by fluids. Given that geothermal energy is related to the extraction and re-injection of (potentially chemically altered) fluids, there is a clear link between her research and the geothermal industry.

Spotlight on keynote: Martin Bloemendal "The subsurface plays a crucial and growing part in sustainably cooling/heating buildings. My vision is that the enormous potential of this source of renewable energy must be put to its maximum use and available for future generations."

Spotlight on keynote: Alexander van Noort "I put all energy on striding towards a balanced energy system. I like and understand planet earth. Geo-energy with their unlimited potential and interaction with the subsurface is the solution that I can make the biggest contribution."
