Starting to get busy in the moth trap with 262 moths of 84 species last night. If there's one moth that matches the weather it has to be this Small Yellow Wave ☀️🦋☀️#VC64 #Otley Bradford Nature Wildlife Friendly Otley WildaboutOtley.bsky.social
If this is Norway Maple then the mine on the key would be that of the moth Etainia sericopeza - a second record for #VC64 and a first for Wharfedale. Just blown off the tree down by the river in #Otley Bradford Nature Wildlife Friendly Otley WildaboutOtley.bsky.social
Apotomis sauciana (Least Marble) - Netted on the Chevin among the bilberries this afternoon. It's the second record for this location, the first being Porritt's in 1883 #VC64 Bradford Nature Wildlife Friendly Otley WildaboutOtley.bsky.social
110 moths of 47 species in the traps last night. Small Fan-footed Wave f. fimbriolata, 2nd generation Early Thorn, and a presumed Grapholita funebrana (Plum Fruit Moth) that's new for Wharfedale. 373 moths of 79 species on the same date last year! #VC64 #Otley Bradford Nature
Quite wet last night so trap undercover. 98 moths of 33 species including Eudemis profundana (Oak Marble) - a new moth for me 💚🦋 #VC64 #Otley Bradford Nature Wildlife Friendly Otley WildaboutOtley.bsky.social
Epermenia chaerophyllella (Common Ridge-back) - a new moth for my garden and Wharfedale that I found while setting the moth trap up yesterday evening 💚🦋 Bradford Nature British Moths
For those taking a night off because it’s a bit damp out - I’ve just picked Palpita vitrealis off the wall by my trap. Until tonight, any good migrant action this year seems to have missed me here in #VC64, #Otley Bradford Nature Migrant Lepidoptera
Figure of Eight - A moth that just about hangs on locally with an annual record in the Otley area most years. After a gap of 5 years it was my turn. #VC64 #Otley Wildlife Friendly Otley WildaboutOtley.bsky.social Bradford Nature British Moths
Stigmella myrtillella (Bilberry Dot) - There's probably loads of these out there to be found, but it's only the second record for #VC64. The first being in 1883. #Otley #Chevin #moths British Moths Bradford Nature Wildlife Friendly Otley WildaboutOtley.bsky.social
Fewer and fewer moths each time I put the trap out this week , but still 15 moths of 10 species last night. Among them was Northern Winter Moth, an occasional visitor to the garden that's easier to find in the woodland up the road #VC64 #Otley Bradford Nature British Moths
Out near the Strid at Bolton Abbey today. What a great tree this was. Lots of blister mines (a few of which are now spending the winter in my wood store) and the feeding signs and hole left by Heliozela sericiella the Oak Cutter. #VC64 Bradford Nature
There seems to be a migration taking place this November with many of the moth community heading over to Bluesky. If you're not there already I hope to see you there soon. Same handle. Posts on here may dwindle Bradford Nature British Moths Charles Fletcher
