Good morning from Whitetop, VA, where winter didn’t hear any bells and 4+ inches of fresh wet snow has fallen today. Still puking snow while the coffee does its thing! 📍Whitetop Mountain, VA

Still no word on whether or not the Swannanoa Ingles will reopen following the damage sustained in Helene. This was the only large grocery in town, and folks are still grappling with its closure. A couple of good resources in this article for folks in need ⬇️

If you look real close, you’ll see that the bottom right graph is a straight line. This is apparently a challenging concept for some folks. Kudos to everyone involved in this monumental, ongoing cleanup 👏🏻

I highly recommend the MGIST program at NC State Center for Geospatial Analytics for all of you soon-to-be and recent meteorology graduates. It’ll take your career down a unique, exciting path, and the skills are highly marketable. 🔗: online-distance.ncsu.edu/program/master…

Really interesting stuff! This could be a valuable communication tool. “Hey Grok, show me what 8’ of storm surge would look like in Charleston, SC.” This isn’t quite accurate, but it’ll only get better. It communicates the threat much better than “expect 8-12’ of storm surge”.

WNC is under a rare, elevated risk for damaging hail today. Ironically, one year ago today, the Barnardsville community experienced some of the largest hail ever recorded in WNC. Keep a close eye on the weather this afternoon into tonight!
