1/ The richest public univ in Ghana in terms of annual income & income per student is KNUST. Followed by UCC & then UG. This is mainly due to student size & thus tuition income. KNUST has ~90k students, UCC has ~80k & UG has ~61k. In 2012, KNUST had ~31k compared to UG's ~38k.

2/ Aggressive enrolment & higher-cost postgrad courses mean KNUST earns ~180m GHS more than the 2nd richest uni, UCC. In 1997, KNUST had just ~6.3k students. The poorest public uni is CK Tedam. Total income is ~12.1M GHS & avg spend per student is 3.3k versus Ashesi's ~162k.

3/ So, in 25 years, KNUST has expanded enrolment by almost 1500%. In the same period, enrolment at MIT grew from 9880 to 11858, i.e. 20%. Not surprising then that MIT can afford to maintain undergraduate non-STEM majors at ~7% of enrolment. In KNUST, 42% of students are non-STEM.

4/ Avg income per student stats also matter. In the US, avg revenue per student is ~$50,000. At Ashesi, it is $14,000. At KNUST, it is ~$630. At UCC & UG, it is ~$550. At CK Tedam, it is ~$280. At Hilla Limann Tec Uni, it is $215. Hilla Limann's abandoned hostel speaks volumes.
