"Game x, but better" is really all there is to game design tbfh. Game designers need to play games they love for way longer than they'd like, long enough to hate them so much that they desperately need to fix them to recover their own sanity and being able to sleep well.

No one can disagree with him here, but the actual question is: to what extent do we humans actually have an understanding of anything? We also function mostly by using simple heuristics and statistically likely correlations, not logical reasoning.
