“Schools are using research to try to improve children’s learning – but it’s not working” Problematic when research used as ‘blueprint’ but impactful when used as food for context-driven professional inquiry. Embrace complexity. theconversation.com/schools-are-us…

Great thread. Agree fully that the control pendulum has swung too strongly one way. This thread maps out how balance could be regained through thoughtful attention to developing teacher agency.

The best definition of trust in school settings I have seen. The importance of a leader's reliability and competence in the engendering of trust is often overlooked. Leaders need to demonstrably be 'good at their job', as well as 'nice people', in order to create real trust.

Kim Scott's Radical Candour model is helpful when thinking about how feedback is given in schools. Most educators are fundamentally nice people, leading to cultures of ruinous empathy. Caring personally & challenging directly are not mutually exclusive. Leaders need to model this

Emma Turner FCCT It may be useful to think of the two (training & implementation) in terms of the image below. Training aims to increase your schema — conceptual content. Implementation involves mental models — how to put the concepts into action. Operational. It relies on experience.

Rescuing growth mindset from the scrapheap of educational theory? A key to facilitating shift from fixed to growth mindset is how challenge is pitched in the classroom. Bjork's concept of 'desirable difficulty' is key here.
