Because I didn't do a column this week, I missed that Griffin in Summer, one of my favorite movies from Tribeca 2024 is being released this weekend. I had to go back and try to find my review...and here it is! edwarddouglas.substack.com/p/the-weekend-…

I've been making a bad joke to people going to TIFF about them missing a highly anticipated movie... and now my joke has come true. My next joke will be about me winning Powerball.

LA GRAZIA is a more subdued and contemplative film from Paolo Sorrentino, exploring themes of leadership, regret, responsibility, and, of course, love. A few stylistic flourishes feel at odds with its overall tone, and the uneven pacing prevents it from reaching the heights of

All these silly rumors that Trump might already be dead... we all know that he's rigged his (supposed) heart to the button so that once it stops, it launches all the nuclear weapons, right?

I tell ya, the Venn Diagram of Springsteen and Mortal Kombat fans are breathing a sigh of relief right now. Can you imagine having to make that Sophie's Choice?

You have one more chance to see Your Sister's Sister today (Saturday) at the IFC Center at 12:55PM and then your final chance is Tuesday night. This is a brilliantly clever and hilarious movie that rarely screens theatrically.

Guillermo del Toro's FRANKENSTEIN starts off overstuffed and frantic, and maybe a little soulless. But then Jacob Elordi shows up as the Monster, and breathes the whole film full of life. vulture.com/article/review…

I’ve had fun writing bad reviews over the years. But then I matured. It’s important to know the line when you cross into masturbation.

BUGONIA is a movie of the moment that speaks to our self-destructive nature fueled by conspiracy, lies, pain and anger. It’s often difficult to endure for its unflinching violence and chilling inhumanity, but it’s also a necessary one that speaks to how far off the deep-end we’ve

I honestly miss Premiere magazine. That was my dream job in college and was where I wanted to write. The mag laid out all the movies for the fall and summer in such a way that you could write things down and make sense of everything and decide which ones really had Oscar

I just read about those AFTER THE HUNT Woody Allen like credits. Can't wait to see this new film at NYFF though I know it will fire on all cylinders and piss people off. Aren't those the best kinds of movies? Thinking it's like Oleanna with a modern day perspective.

Interesting... Gold Derby seems to think we're heading towards another Fraser/Chalamet faceoff even though neither of these movies have been seen. I think White is the frontrunner... and Paul Mescal/Dwayne Johnson are likely to bump Clooney and one of the others.

Wow...based on early Sunday estimates, it looks like a 50th anniversary rerelease of Jaws might end up beating all of the new wide releases... but I think Weapons still wins its third weekend (not in a row, due to KPop Demon Hunters).

Depending on whether Universal decides to extend the run of Jaws, we might have two weekends in a row where a movie opens in the top 3 and then is gone the next weekend.

Really enjoyed watching Covino and Marvin's Splitsville a second time. Like The Climb, there are so many jokes that popped the second time that I missed the first time... just a great comedy to rewatch again and again (much like The Climb).
