We were dry earlier this summer. Enough so that we were done our planned first pass of grazing in 70 days instead of 90 days. We made the decision to graze this alfalfa instead of haying it to get our grazing schedule back on track. A little less than 50 acres lasted 23 days for

Cow herd will be grazing this in a about a month when they come home from summer pastures. We will feed straw at the same time with daily moves. Looks like it will be dynamite feed! 🧨

One of my biggest ag labor realizations: If you *need* 4 full-time workers, hire 5. Upfront costs sting, but the long-term payoff in reliability and sanity is worth it.

Lift the cover crop and we find a whole world of life beneath it! The earth worms are thriving — and they’re busy brewing up their rich black gold to keep the soil happy and healthy.

About a week left of grazing here. We've been very blessed with no snow and a fairly easy fall. Calves are in good shape and enjoying life. Heifer calf pictured here is off a good 11yr old cow. A downside of running multi sire groups is it takes a while for us to get the DNA

Where do you send forage samples for endophyte testing? Can't seem to find a place in Canada, open to suggestions in the States. Thanks
