#WhyWaterWednesday Alana grew up in FL, where she learned how to swim, fish, & wakeboard on the St. Lucie River, which now experiences toxic #algalblooms. Watching this ecosystem destruction motivated her to do #appliedresearch to protect waterways across the USA. UA System Div of Ag
New paper out in Ecology Letters: tinyurl.com/riverbiomass We developed a model to estimate river ecosystem productivity resilience and site-specific disturbance flow thresholds from widely available GPP time series! Thanks to co-authors Bob Hall, Bob Shriver, and C. Yackulic!
So happy to continue working with this crew!! Huge shout out to Alex Webster, PhD and Dr. Arial Shogren for being our fearless leaders 🙌🏼

Great review paper on C-Q relationships! This is one of those rare gems -- its both a great synthesis of contemporary literature AND its instructive for folks new to the technique. Big thanks Shannon Speir, PhD, Dr. Arial Shogren, Michelle Wolford, and coauthors!
There are still open opportunities to join the Shogren Lab! If you know of folks who are interested in stream biogeochemistry, sensors, and collaborative science, I’ll be at #AGU23 this week! 💦
Join this amazing crew in fall’24! The The Speir Lab is looking for a great team player with a positive attitude, willing to dig into the nitty gritty of WQ sensors! See ad for info! They’ll join the QuEST project led by Alex Webster, PhD, w/ Dr. Arial Shogren, Joanna Blaszczak, & Adam Wymore!
