Building on this generous release by Advait Moharir and Vijayshree, here is a slightly more granular and readable release of the HCES microdata. The tables are now searchable by descriptions and names of goods, to help avoid external lookups. github.com/jaidevd/hces-2…

This is fantastic work by Data For India Pramit Bhattacharya!! May not grab headlines, but for those of us who work with data, this is great public service. How one village swung India's workforce numbers in 2022-23 dataforindia.com/plfs-assam/?ut…

Thread: We wrapped up the hugely gratifying Demystifying Economics Workshop held in Azim Premji University . This was the 3rd edition and was co-organised with Bahujan Economists & School for Democracy. The hope with this annual workshop is to build bridges between academia & practitioners.

Theme this year: Labour & Employment. After Arjun Jayadev introduced the rationale for this workshop, we had a session on economics as if the constitution matters. Then Japneet ਜਪਨੀਤ جپنیت & rohit (not) azad did an imp & difficult session on statistical measures & data visualisation.

Then starting with the cult song 'haal chaal theek thaak hai' Amit Basole walked us through the trajectory on the growth story from 1950s to 2020s assessing the relationship between GDP & employment.

After a group activity, there were engaging sessions on labour & employment in transitioning economies including songs by the passionate Prashanth & the thoughtful Srishti Yadav

On the last day, Shravan from CSE- Azim Premji University explained the complicated sampling method of PLFS, went through the PLFS dashboard & did a hands-on session on using PLFS data. Avani Chokshi of AILAJ_HQ then explained the pernicious implications of the 4 Labour Codes

The penultimate session was a highly interactive session on minimum wages & employment by Anand Shrivastava

Finally, many thanks to Rema, Prashanth & Tamoghna for being part of the core organising team at APU. Thanks to the travel desk, the Food team, the AV team, the security & housekeeping staff, and a host of student volunteers from Azim Premji University for making this happen.
