Jack Parker's research investigates deep water habitats as climate refuges. With ocean temperatures rising, species may migrate to cooler mesophotic reefs, which offer stable temperatures compared to shallower waters. #GreatSouthernReef #MesophoticZone

Our recent paper, lead by CΓ‘tia Freitas, shows the impact of an ocean education resource complemented by teacher workshops can create enhanced ocean literacy outcomes. And the best part? 100 schools connected to Port Phillip Bay will receive this resource (v2) in term 3!

We know so little about spider crabs' lives, despite the fact that their gatherings have been fascinating the community for decades. We're enlisting the help of citizen scientists to help answer some burning questions. Thank you Great Southern Reef Foundation for promoting our Deakin University research!

Elysia crispata, the lettuce sea slug! Not a nudibranch but a sacoglossan. This sea slug does something called kleptoplasty, or chloroplast symbiosis. The chloroplasts from the algae they eat is sequestered into their digestive tract and parapodia, work overtime for them πŸ’ͺ
