Today marks my first day as associate editor at Parents. I’ve been working toward this job since I started out in digital media. This is also a day of endings. The end of my time in food media, and as a freelancer. But for now all I feel is gratitude and excitement.

Any recs for a good book for a 4yo boy who loves maps? My son is obsessed with when they put maps of the place in the front of books (I mean aren’t we all???) and I want to get him a book that’s like…all maps? Does this exist?

During the last total solar eclipse, I was hiking alone above 10,000 ft outside of Flagstaff. It was too cloudy to see the eclipse but the air got darker, the birds went quiet, the wind seemed to die. Silence bloomed; time passed; the world resumed. An unforgettable pause.

My grandpa—a botanist-hiker-ski coach-karate instructor-fire lookout-fisherman-enviro conservationist-reader sort of guy—died this morn at home in the Bitterroot Valley. He taught me to climb mountains, jump off rocks, do crosswords, and ask hard questions. We miss him terribly.
